Boiolo, as delimited today, is the second largest MGA on the Eastern Slopes of La Morra, exceeded only by the MGA Annunziata. It can be divided into two parts, broadly following the border between the typical Sant\u2019Agata Fossili Marls formation, in the lower part, where the exposure is not very well suited to Nebbiolo, and the laminated Sant\u2019Agata Fossili Marls formation, in the higher part. This second area can then be divided into Boiolo proper, between the hamlet of the name and the border with Rocche dell\u2019Annunziata, and the area of Fontanazza, which is the best known of the two, also because of its proximity to Brunate.<\/p>\n

Once practically ignored by Barolo producers, Boiolo in recent years has seen a continuous flowering of new labels, with results that are often convincing and faithful to the most typical style of evoluted soils, in wines of good color and tasty tannins that are more immediately drinkable than those of the more aristocratic crus.<\/p>\n
