Muncagota

Following a tradition which has become firmly established in recent decades, and just as in the case of other MGAs, the name Muncagota (the dialect version of Moccagatta) has been extended over an area which is larger than the historical confines of the cru. A small part of the vineyards on the Eastern Slopes of Barbaresco (facing Neive), effectively speaking the highest part of Ronchi, has been added, in fact, to those which face Barbaresco and the Tanaro river. In the latter case, the exposure cannot be said to be among the warmest of the township, but despite this fact wines of character and structure can be produced here, as the Barbaresco Bric Balin of the Moccagatta winery has demonstrated on more than one occasion (the largest part of whose blend comes precisely from these slopes). Worthy of note as well is the Barbaresco Riserva Muncagota of the Produttori del Barbaresco winery, produced principally from grapes grown in the east-facing plots.
