Montaribaldi

This MGA, which flanks the ancient Roman road which once led to Monte Aribaldo (Villa Gresy in the two panoramic images), consists of a long, narrow strip that rises from Cascina Cencio to Nicolini, and then borders on Pajorè. Altitudes vary considerably from one end of the MGA to the other, while exposures evolve gradually from southeast to southwest on slopes with soils very favorable to quality Nebbiolo. Compared to Roncaglie, the Nebbiolo of Montaribaldi seems to lend more volume and depth to the wines, ranging in character from the austere Bric Turot (produced near the Cascina Cencio) to the softer and more expansive Sorì Montaribaldi (from the opposite end of the MGA). In between, both in terms of geography and character of the wines, is the Barbaresco of Oddero from vineyards near Cascina Quinto.
